Connect HubSpot to Claude

HubSpot was the first CRM to ship a connector for Claude. Once you wire it up, Claude can pull live context from your pipeline (contacts, companies, deals, tickets, invoices, line items…) and - with permission - create records, log activities, and update deals straight from the chat window. This is the small-business quickstart.

1What it unlocks

Three concrete things you couldn’t do before:

The three superpowers

1 · Insight
AI on your real CRM
Personalised summaries and visualisations grounded in your contacts, deals, and tickets - not generic advice.
2 · Write-back
Create & update records
Create contacts, deals, tasks, notes, and activities straight from chat. No more tab-switching.
3 · Workflow
From insight to action
“Segment customers who bought X in March and draft a follow-up sequence” - one chat, both halves.

2What you’ll need

RequirementNotes
An active HubSpot account Any paid HubSpot tier with the records you want Claude to see.
New to HubSpot?Start on the free CRM - the free tier covers contacts, deals, and tasks, which is enough to feel the connector out.
A paid Claude subscription Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. The connector isn’t available on the free tier.
A HubSpot Super Admin (just for first-time setup) AdminThe Super Admin (or someone with App Marketplace permissions) installs the connector once for the whole portal. After that, individual users connect themselves.

3Step 1 - admin enables it

Do this once per HubSpot portal. If you’re a solo operator who runs HubSpot, you’re both the admin and the user - just do this step, then step 2.

The admin walkthrough:
  1. Sign into your HubSpot account as Super Admin.
  2. Go to the App Marketplace and search for “Claude”.
  3. Open the official HubSpot connector for Claude listing.
  4. Click Install app and accept the permissions prompt.
  5. Done - the connector is now available for every user in your portal to authorise on their own account.

See HubSpot’s official admin guide: knowledge.hubspot.com.

4Step 2 - each teammate connects

Once the admin step is done, each person who wants Claude to see HubSpot does this:

The user walkthrough:
  1. Sign into Claude.
  2. Open Customise → Connectors (or Settings → Connectors).
  3. Click Browse Connectors. Under Web Connectors, choose HubSpot.
  4. Click Connect and authorise the OAuth prompt with your HubSpot account.
  5. You’re live. Try the first prompts in the next section.

5First prompts to try

Paste any of these into Claude. They’re designed to show the connector working, not just confirm it’s installed.

Summarise this week’s new deals by stage and owner. Highlight any that have been sitting in “Discovery” for more than 10 days.

Find the contact “Acme Industries” in HubSpot. Pull their last three activities and draft a polite follow-up email for me to review.

Create a new deal in HubSpot: company “Sun Lakes Realty”, value $4,800, stage “Proposal sent”, owner me, close date end of next month. Log a note explaining the source was a referral from Jane Hudson.

Pull all open tickets assigned to me and group them by priority. Suggest which three I should clear today.

6What it reads vs writes

The connector is permission-scoped. Here’s the lay of the land.

ObjectRead?Write?
ContactsReadYesWriteYes - create / update
CompaniesReadYesWriteYes
DealsReadYesWriteYes
TicketsReadYesWriteLimited
Activities / tasks / notesReadYesWriteYes - log straight from chat
Line items, quotes, invoices, orders, carts, products, subscriptions, lists, usersReadYesRead-only for now
The trust model: Claude shows its work - you’ll see the records it’s about to create or update before they’re committed, and you can approve, edit, or cancel. Anything it writes appears as your user in the HubSpot audit log.

7SMB tips & gotchas

SituationTip
You’re a solo founderTipYou can do steps 1 and 2 in one sitting. The admin step authorises the app at the portal level; the user step links your specific account.
You have multiple HubSpot portalsEach portal needs its own admin install. Users pick which portal they’re authorising during the OAuth step.
You don’t want Claude to writeUse the connector anyway - just don’t ask it to create things. It will still summarise and analyse.
You worry about trainingAnthropic’s standard data terms apply - your business data isn’t used to train Claude. Read your Claude plan terms for the specifics.
A teammate leftRevoke the connector from the HubSpot admin side; the connection is bound to the user account that authorised it.
Next step: once HubSpot is talking to Claude, the natural pair is QuickBooks (so Claude can also see the numbers behind the pipeline) or PayPal (so it can move on invoicing the moment a deal closes).
